The Master Chief Collection — which includes all four numbered entries in the series — is a great reminder that Halo succeeded not because of hype or flavor-of-the-month popularity, but because of timeless first-person shooter design.

Your squad mates are absolutely useless, mostly just standing at the periphery of every gunfight and occasionally firing in the general direction of enemies. You can give them simple commands to move to a specific spot or attack a certain enemy, but doing so is more of a liability than a help. Your teammates seem incapable of simple actions like firing at the same time as they are moving, making them big, juicy targets as they trot through the open if you tell them to move somewhere or attack.
By the end of the game, I viewed my teammates as little more than unreliable walking healthpacks. A recurring boss is fought multiple times throughout the game, and the experience boils down to trying to get behind him to shoot a giant glowing weak point on his back. This is much easier to do in co-op, as when playing alone the boss will largely ignore your AI teammates and focus exclusively on you, making flanking difficult.

With all the new mechanics in Halo 5, Industries only gave us access to a single Arena playlist and a single Warzone playlist. The Master Chief Collection was riddled with matchmaking.

The Firefight Arcade playlist was changed to Firefight, and new Firefight Arcade game types were added with the original Firefight Arcade game types remaining intact. Making a triumphant return to the same playlist are Limited game types, in both their original form and with a new enemy progression. Matchmaking for Halo Reach is going to be a completely different experience than Halo 3’s matchmaking. There will be no “skill level” or “exp count” in Reach, so no stress of Generals, yet there still will be a true skill value that is hidden from you, but still does a much better job at matching.
Visnird Visnird 3 years ago 1 What problem do people have with a mandatory ranking system? Only thing I can think of, is people don’t want to be put against players better than they are. They want easy wins. They don’t want a challenge. I’m hearing that a lot of people have cried out for social, unranked playlists. I think it’s a stupid idea. There is no need for it. People in the ranked matches aren’t playing against players ranked considerably lower than they are.
I haven’t played a single person in Bronze or Silver since I’ve been in Diamond. An unranked system will probably be unexpectedly frustrating for a lot of players.
