Are you sure you want to delete this answer? Yes Sorry, something has gone wrong. If the pool is equipped with a skimmer in grounds and solid wall above grounds will have them , it hooks in there. Some above ground pools with non rigid walls will either have a floating skimmer or an inwall fitting to hook up to. For ingrounds, the skimmers can vary a bit in design. American Products Fox Pools make one with a single hole at the bottom easy to guess which to hook up to whilst manufacturers like Hayward and Jacuzzi make inground skimmers with two holes. If the pool was built properly, the hole furthest from the pool edge, will be the suction hole. Before you vac, you’ll need to assemble the vac pole, head and hose and make sure you’re filter if it’s a sand one is set to “filter”. If it’s not sand and is a cartridge or DE filter, there’s nothing to do in that department. If there is large debris, or a lot of debris, you might consider hooking a vac plate up so that debris you suck up like twigs don’t make it into the plumbing lines, but get caught instead, in the skimmer basket itself.
It requires careful measurements, skillful adjustments, and a vacuum that really sucks – a lot of air. Setting the liner with a vacuum, that is, to remove the air behind the liner, and suck the liner tightly against the walls and floor of the pool. There is another industry favorite, called the Q-Vac, unique with its flattened hose that fits easily behind the liner. Smaller shop vacs, or those that cannot obtain a good seal to create strong suction, may not work. They are also very useful for spotting wrinkles which aren’t removed by the vacuum – those wrinkles that need some special attention, or manipulation, before filling the pool.
Getting Ready to Set the Liner Before you install the liner, take some time to seal up any air gaps between the wall panels, or between the wall panels and the coping or track, on top of the wall.
Bestway® 19ft 7in Pool Vacuum is simple to set up, easy to use and far more effective than using eye-watering chemicals and a scouring brush to wrestle algae and grime from the floors and walls of an above ground pool.
I really don’t know much about the history of the pool, it came with the house and the previous owners aren’t terribly friendly. I have replaced the plumbers tape on the skimmer hose fitting threads, and the pump fitting threads Hayward Powerflo Matrix. I’ve put plumbers tape on the part of the skimmer and pump fittings where the hose attaches and tightened the clamps. The hose is new. I’ve replaced the o-ring on the pump the one for the skimmer compartment. I don’t know what else to try.
Could it be the gasket between the pump impeller and the motor. Thank you in advance for your help. Loosing prime when vacuuming could be one of several different things. These are some of the things I would check. When attaching a vacuum hose I start by hooking one end up to the vacuum head and inserting the head, pole and pole in the pool.
Doughboy Skimmers Lead the Industry in Design and Functionality Has more skimming surface area that removes surface debris much faster. Allows for more pool water height fluctuation — reducing the need to frequently add water. Has an exclusive vacuum port built into their faceplate enabling direct hookup of vacuums. Choice of skimmer body colors in gray or beige. Exclusive u-joint skimmer gasket provides extra protection against leaks.

I remember it well. Using just a map, I drove way out to the other side of Lake County to a small house that looked like a shack. It seemed to me that I was always building pools way out in the boonies. And it was always the last house on the right. As you can imagine, this place was way out in the middle of nothing. When I arrived, I was still unaware that they had no electricity and started asking the standard questions of where did they want the pool and where did they want the pump and filter.
He had no idea that a pool has to have a pump and filter. After I explained it to him, he of course wanted me to install the pool anyway and said that he would just have to figure it out later. Now of course electricity is everywhere. Whatever It Takes Above ground swimming pools come with above ground pool pumps. I say this because pumps for in-ground pools are a little different.
Since pumps for above grounds only come as V, they all have standard three-prong plug cords attached to them. So due to these pumps having standard cords on them, the easiest way to get power to your pool is to use an extension cord connected to some outlet from the house. I recommend only using an extension cord temporarily until you can have a permanent power line buried that runs to the pump.
However, connecting the hoses is not as difficult as it appears. The procedure actually makes perfect sense when you understand the purpose of each hose. Before you begin, read the set-up instructions that came with your pool.
1 Hook Up an Above Ground Pool Vacuum; 2 Attach a Pool Vacuum to the Filter Tank; Hold the free end of the vacuum hose in front of the water-return outlet to fill the hose with water. Keep one.
If you use Trichlor tablets or sticks, the safest, easiest and most accurate way to slow-dissolve them is with a chlorine feeder. A pool floater can get stuck or flip over, and putting any type of pool chemical into the skimmer is a big no-no. Aboveground or inground, all pools that use chlorine tablets, should also use a tablet feeder, like the Hayward Chlorinator.
Hayward Chlorinator Installation The CL model CL for above ground pools can be plumbed in-line, which means that the feeder is glued in place on the return pipe, after the filter and any heater, last on the line. The CL or CL are for off-line installation. The feeder base is screwed to the floor, and hoses carry water in and out of the feeder, pushing chlorine through injection fittings in the pipes.
Both feeders have 1.
Pool Ladder Above Ground Pools are no fun unless you can get in it and eventually, when you’re as wrinkled as a raisin, you’ll want to get out. Above ground pool steps and ladders are made from sturdy, waterproof resin. Weight limits vary so these are important to check if body weight is an issue.

Skim vac or vacuum plate if needed 1. Attach the vac head to the open end of the telescopic pole. Take one end of the hose and attach it to the top of the vac head. Use a hose clamp if the hose tends to slip off frequently. Place the vac head, pole, and hose in the pool — all the way to the bottom so that the vac head rests on the floor of the pool. With the pump and filter running, take the other end of the hose and put it up against a return jet in the pool.
This will push water through the hose and get all the air out. Bubbles will come up from the vacuum head on the floor of the pool. Once the bubbles stop, all the air is out of the hose. If a vacuum plate is NOT being used, remove the basket inside the skimmer, block with your hand the end of the hose that has been filled up with water, and bring it over and into the skimmer. Make sure the hose is inserted into the suction hole at the bottom of the skimmer.
If a vac plate is being used, attach it to the end of the hose that was up against the return jet, block the opening, and bring it over to the skimmer. Be sure to create a good seal or suction will be lost. This will create the suction from the vac head, through the hose, into the skimmer, and through the filter system.
The manual vacuum system consists of a head with brushes and rollers on it, a big roll of ribbed plastic hose and a long metal or fiberglass pole. Although vacuuming a pool can be tedious, it’s a cinch compared to balancing the water chemistry. So if you’re ever tempted to neglect your maintenance schedule, remember that debris on the bottom of a pool can lead to algae growth, and it’s no fun to swim in slimy, green water.
Check the skimmer basket and clean it out, if necessary. Turn on the pump and make sure water is running through the filter.

Insufficient clearance at front – should be at least 2. Heat pump is wrong way round! Insufficient clearance – Heat pump blowing onto shed Insufficient clearance – should be at least 2. Risk of air recirculation and insufficient air flow 2. Water Flow Rate Most of our pool heat pumps state the required water flow rate on their specifications table. If the water flow rate is too low, then the water in the heat pump will overheat and the heat pump will switch off.
Check the water flow rate from your pool pump and through your filter to ensure that it is high enough for your pool heat pump. Note that there is a maximum possible flow through each size of pool pipe regardless of the power of your pump. For larger heat pumps it may not be possible to achieve sufficient water flow through small pipes eg 1.
Please contact us for advice on this. We sell water flow meters that will show you the flow rate through your pipes.
