There is a belt that comes off the front pulley and goes to the Double pulley on the deck. Another belt then goes on the same front deck pulley and runs the other blades. You may have stretched the primary belt from the front back. Get a flashlight and look carefully at all the belts. You will find the belt that has a melted or worn spot on it. Leave it on until you get the new belt. Draw yourself a diagram of how the current belt is on, or take a couple pictures with your cell phone camera. Belts are pretty simply just remember you have to put belt on all pulleys except the one that is easiest to get to.

Being able to slide the mower around to get at the shaft makes it very easy. With the depth guage set at 00 I then slowly drop the links which allows me a last second adjustment of the mower as they drop into place I found that it’s always easier to set the right side pin 1st, don’t know why, it just goes easier, then I set the left side. Lately the left side has taken alittle more fin-agle’n to get it fully seated.
I always say that I’m going to check the mounting bracket on both the MMM and lift link to make sure they’re plumb the next time I take it off, but haven’t yet, I guess I will when it gets real hard Lastly I then hook up the front link. This works for me. In your case, seeing as how it’s brand new, you might try alternately seating one or the other pin 1st to see if it makes a difference.
These instructions are quite long, but the process is really pretty simple. Before you begin the installation process, while the deck is still out, give it a thorough inspection to make sure it is ready to go and will make it through the whole season. Be sure to grease the driveshaft sliding coupling halves, grease the deck bearings, and inspect the u-joints. Pull the belt cover off and inspect the long single belt, the idler pulleys, and check the oil level in the gearbox.
I believe the gearbox runs on standard 90wt gear oil. This is also the best time to look under the deck to ensure the blades are straight and sharp and the welds under the deck are solid.

He had an old broken down riding lawnmower that he had conned his Uncle into helping him get up and running, but never had bothered to put the time or effort into putting it into a good state of repair, or even ever getting it to simply cut grass. He came up to me one day and asked me if I might be interested it. I looked it over and told him to get back with me.

I’ve found that most of the problems with engines are pretty simple once you’ve seen them so I’m planning to document what I can to make “Fixin’ Mowers” simple. Here’s what I’ve documented so far: If the mower was running just fine last Fall, and will not start in the Spring, the first thing to suspect is that the gas has gone bad. If it just keeps running worse and worse until it stops or doesn’t start , it could easily be the air filter.
This is what a ” Fouled Plug ” looks like. Here’s a “quick” cleanup.
