Origins[ edit ] Flux Year Box 2, c. After attending courses on Zen Buddhism taught by D. Suzuki, Cage taught a series of classes in Experimental Composition from to at the New School for Social Research in New York City, which explored notions of chance and indeterminacy in art, and with the score as the basis for compositions, which could be performed in potentially infinite ways. The most famous example is Duchamp’s infamous altered readymade Fountain , a work which he signed “R. Their artworks would inform Fluxus and conceptual art in general. It was at one of these events in , during his Etude pour Piano, that Paik leapt into the audience and cut John Cage’s tie off, ran out of the concert hall, and then phoned the hall’s organisers to announce the piece had ended. Fluxus started with the work, and then came together, applying the name Fluxus to work which already existed.
Beck undermines one of the most powerful beliefs of our time concerning society and politics. Economy and Society, 35 3: Becker argues that in a world risk society, we must distinguish between ecological and financial dangers, which can be conceptualized as side effects, and the threat from terrorist networks as intentional catastrophes; the principle of deliberately exploiting the vulnerability of modern civil society replaces the principle of chance and accident.

Lisa Anderson proves it’s possible. I celebrate myself, and sing myself, And what I assume you shall assume, For every atom belonging to me as good belongs to you. I loafe and invite my soul, I lean and loafe at my ease observing a spear of summer grass. My tongue, every atom of my blood, form’d from this soil, this air, Born here of parents born here from parents the same, and their parents the same, I, now thirty-seven years old in perfect health begin, Hoping to cease not till death.
Creeds and schools in abeyance, Retiring back a while sufficed at what they are, but never forgotten, I harbor for good or bad, I permit to speak at every hazard, Nature without check with original energy. The atmosphere is not a perfume, it has no taste of the distillation, it is odorless, It is for my mouth forever, I am in love with it, I will go to the bank by the wood and become undisguised and naked, I am mad for it to be in contact with me.
Have you reckon’d a thousand acres much? Have you practis’d so long to learn to read? Have you felt so proud to get at the meaning of poems? Stop this day and night with me and you shall possess the origin of all poems, You shall possess the good of the earth and sun, there are millions of suns left, You shall no longer take things at second or third hand, nor look through the eyes of the dead, nor feed on the spectres in books, You shall not look through my eyes either, nor take things from me, You shall listen to all sides and filter them from your self.
There was never any more inception than there is now, Nor any more youth or age than there is now, And will never be any more perfection than there is now, Nor any more heaven or hell than there is now.
Two-Spirit People also Two Spirit or Twospirit is an umbrella term sometimes used for what was once commonly known as berdaches, Indigenous North Americans who fulfill one of many mixed gender roles found traditionally among many Native Americans and Canadian First Nations communities. Much of what she has to say here is helpful. She acknowledges that, even as someone who hoped and expected to get married one day, she never gave it much serious thought until she started working at Focus, and was challenged on her beliefs about marriage — or lack thereof — by colleagues. Many of the same church leaders who taught us those self-defeating lessons would later turn around and wonder why our generation has had such trouble making it to the altar.
The weakness of this first part of the book, I think, is that Anderson buys into that mentality a little too much. I used to write for the Boundless site myself, but stopped because I felt increasingly alienated by the strictness of their attitude on these subjects. In recent years that strictness has relaxed, although sometimes I still see them promoting articles from the old days when they considered any form of dating anathema. The mere fact that Anderson encourages dating in her book though she sticks to rigid gender roles that are reminiscent of courtship , and talks about the problems and difficulties faced by a generation that shies away from dating, reflects a quiet but very significant shift that has taken place in evangelical circles over the years.
The fact that anyone still gets married is a miracle. This is the main subject of the second part of the book, and this is where I think Anderson really shows her strengths as a writer and thinker. She understands, and movingly conveys, the very real grief that singles experience as they mourn the life that they had expected and hoped to have. She captures the difficulty of walking the line between contentment with singleness and hope that marriage might still happen.
The family relocated so that her father could attend the London Film School. There were only six punks there. It’s not like London. She was voted by her classmates as “class clown”, “most bizarre girl” and “most likely to be arrested”. She was, in fact, arrested on graduation night for breaking and entering into her high school in an attempt to glue the locks of the doors.
Well, a couple dating books I thought were good were The Dating Manifesto by Lisa Anderson and The Sacred Search by Gary Thomas. And as far as on relationships in general, perhaps check out The DNA of Relationships by Gary Smalley.

December 13, Fisking Juan Cole I hardly ever – ever – pick fights with other bloggers. But I’m not finished with Juan Cole yet. It’s long past time to give the professor from Michigan a double-whammy shellacking. Yesterday he made up a conspiracy theory all by himself, this time about the Iraqi bloggers who write at Iraq the Model. A related practice has been called by Josh Marshall “astroturfing,” where a “grass roots” campaign turns out actually to be sponsored by a think tank or corporation.
Astroturf is fake grass used in US football arenas. What Mailander is talking about is not really astroturfing, but rather the granting of some individuals a big megaphone. It points out that the views of the brothers are celebrated in the right-leaning weblogging world of the US, even though opinion polling shows that their views are far out of the mainstream of Iraqi opinion. The brothers call b. Neither does Juan Cole. But why should it make any difference to the right side of the blogosphere whether or not the Iraq the Model guys are mainstream or not?
This film’s sole purpose is to cram as much stuntwork humanly possible into 89 minutes. The goons accidentally drop Billy Ray in a lake, so Carmen picks him up, the goons steal a car and the chase is on Why the goons didn’t just chase them in the helicopter is a question better left unasked.
Bil ly Ray obliquely reveals to Carmen the location of the diamonds just before the goons shoot him dead. With no planes available again, a question better left unasked , Osborn and McKinnon must drive their uncooperative witness to their destination, while Carmen tries to decipher the mysterious clues Billy Ray gave her before he died.

However the police union seemed to think that he might implying that all police were racists. There was also debate about the rules governing the use of social media. This is often selectively enforced but that is for another discussion. It seems to me that this is just part of a larger movement about a variety of problems with the police and it isn’t limited to racism. His posting of this sign might actually show that not all police are racist at all since it indicates acknowledgement of the problem and a willingness to change it.
There is good reason to believe that many other police officers also acknowledge some of these problems and they’re the ones that seem to demonstrate that not all police at corrupt or abusive. These problems of course include the police shootings of unarmed black men that led to the black lives matter movement and many other shootings including much more that were clearly murders and actually led to convictions. Even the FBI’s own figures of what they call “Justifiable Homicide” reached a high of in ; and it doesn’t appear as if they track many other killings that might be considered questionable or murder.
However a growing number of citizens activists are compiling a much longer list which indicates that this may actually be less than half of the total number of police killings. The most comprehensive collection of these stories that I have found to date covering police shootings since has collected reports of people Killed By Police in and they include links to news stories so that they can be fact checked. These are in order based on the date of the killing, justifiable or not; so it is unlikely that there is much if any redundancy.
Compared to the long list they provide this “History of Cops Convicted of Murder” is relatively brief, even though it closes with another long list that goes back decades, but isn’t nearly as thorough.

November 18, Photo: She is also the author of The Dating Manifesto: Today, we talk with Lisa about the current Christian dating culture, the role of the church toward singles, and the steps single men and women can take to date well. The Bible lays out very few parameters for marriage. It sounds so simple. What are the factors that have made dating toward marriage so complicated among single young adults today? I think there are a couple simple ones.
First, there is no longer a standard script or timeline for the pursuit of marriage. In previous generations, there was a natural progression toward marriage that had everyone moving in the same general direction and on the same timeline. You matured early, did some schooling or started a career, maybe served in a war, then found an eligible partner among your acquaintances and settled down.
Nowadays, the life choices for young adults are seemingly endless.
